Walking Families Out of Poverty Together

November 30, 2025 • Sam Bate, Director of Communications

Through our new Thriving Families Initiative (in partnership with Second Presbyterian and Goodwill), we're walking alongside neighbors out of poverty through meaningful relationships, individual coaching, and intentional community.

Meet Keontae: He transitioned from an unfulfilling career in accounting to food service, but had dreams of becoming a teacher and football coach. Through TFI, he leveraged relationships in the network to connect at a local school. Keontae now works as a teacher's assistant and is actively completing his FAFSA and college applications to finish his bachelor's degree. He recently co-facilitated a Thriving Families MeetUp—a valuable leadership opportunity aligned with his goal of becoming an educator.

"Poverty will not be solved by individual handouts, but by communities that rebuild a social fabric that involves meaningful relationships across differences in class, race, and background."
