Middle School

Middle School Ministry

Most people look back on their youth ministry experience as foundational to their faith journey. We partner with parents to raise tweens, teens, and college-aged students to create safe spaces where students can grow in relationship with God and with one another.

FUZE WKND

FUZE WKND

We are kicking off the school year with FUZE WKND, our annual in-town retreat where we fuse together 5th-12th grade for worship and teaching. Middle and High School students will separate for games and activities. They will spend the whole weekend in their small groups - building relationships and growing deeper in faith together.

This year's theme is FUZE WKND: Welcome to Wonderland. No matter where you're at when it comes to God, this event is for you. Through all kinds of activities and intentional relationship time, we will explore what it means to live a life of wonder and awe. Join us for this exciting weekend that you won't forget!

The weekend ends with family worship in the 9:30am Contemporary Service.

Small Groups

Small Groups are the most important part of our ministry because they are the place where students build relationships with one another as they seek out a relationship with God.

Middle School Small Groups take place on Sunday mornings in the Lodge at 9:30 & 11:00am. Students gather together for games, worship, and announcements then break into grades for teaching and small groups.

Small Groups soft-launch August 15th, and we encourage people to sign up by August 1st using this link. If you come in a bit later; no worries! Contact Travis Bannon, our Youth Small Groups Director and he will place you in the right group.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a major milestone in the faith journey of a student and is about helping students make two commitments: a commitment to following Christ with their whole heart, and the commitment to uphold St. Luke's as a member of the church. All 7th graders go through Confirmation during our Sunday morning programming as a way to deepen the connections they made with their small groups during 5th and 6th grades. Confirmation runs from August through May. We also offer an option for older students. Sign up for Confirmation ends August 15th.

Sign up for Confirmation using our Small Group Link if you are in 7th grade. If you are in 8th grade or older, a 6-week class will be offered in January – contact Heather for more information.

Worship

One of our greatest values is that students will go to church services, and won’t substitute youth group or small groups for the opportunity to worship with their church family.

Middle Schoolers will worship at special times throughout the school year, taking a break from their Sunday morning small groups to intentionally go to church that day. Those dates and will be updated in our weekly newsletter.

Events

Each month we have a fun event for our middle schoolers. Invite Nights are the perfect opportunity to get involved and make memories, plus there are sweet prizes for inviting your friends! Our annual Christmas Overnighter always provides the best memories for our students. And of course, you can’t forget Middle School Mayhem!

Additional Information and Resources

At St. Luke’s, we believe in an intentional faith map for kids birth through college-aged. Our STEPS curriculum and programming are designed to move our students through age-appropriate lessons. Here’s a quick outline.

  •  5th-6th Grade – Foundations: We rotate through the Old & New Testament to provide a meta-narrative of the Bible to our preteens.
  •  7th Grade – Confirmation: We talk about where our faith comes from and give students a chance to make a profession of faith in God and membership at St. Luke’s.
  •  8th Grade – Spiritual Gifts: Students respond to their vow of membership by learning about the unique gifts they have to give to the church and beyond.
  •  9th-10th Grade – Spiritual Practices: We talk about key spiritual practices to help students personalize their faith in a real way.
  •  11th-12th Grade – Spiritual Roots: Students are invited to participate in workshops that help prepare them for college and beyond.

We offer plenty of opportunities to pay for retreats, mission trips, and activities by offering fundraisers that put money into Fundraising Accounts. Students can use their accounts to pay for any activity.

  • Pumpkin Sale – Each year in October, our Youth Ministry raises money for students by selling pumpkins. Youth and families who work a shift earn scholarship credit.
  • Stock Sales, Month of January - Members of the church can purchase "shares" of our youth mission trips, receiving personalized thank you notes from our youth and an invitation to meet them and hear about their trip at a Shareholder's Dinner in August.

Want to lead a small group? Think Invite Nights sound fun? Want to chaperone a trip? If you're interested in serving with our Youth Ministry, contact Heather Kenison, Director of Student Ministries or by phone 317-846-3404 .

If your child has any special needs or considerations, contact Crystal Hensley, Special Needs Coordinator.

Troup 56 meets every Monday from 7-8:30PM. They always welcome newcomers to their meetings. Check out their Facebook page.

St. Luke's invites you to our annual Safe Sanctuaries Certification. Safe Sanctuaries is a required certification to work directly with children, youth, and vulnerable adults and recommended for anybody who volunteers in an area where they may encounter these populations. Come get certified in time for the new school year! If you need to be certified but none of these times work with you, please contact your ministry representative or Heather Kenison, Director of Student Ministries.
